“88 nominees, 50,000 votes and seven photo shoots later…”
i still don’t know exactly what it means to be on the style council and i’m half expecting someone to show up at my door with a 12 month schedule of mandatory meetings and an armload of meeting minutes to review but as of yet, i think i’m off the hook.

we just finished the interview and shot this feature for 7×7 magazine with photographer john lee and it’s on the news stands now. John described the shoot in print like this ” There’s nothing like getting gutter juice all over yourself while lying on the ground in the middle of Minna Street late on a foggy night, trying to avoid getting hit by cabbies.” john was a trooper, the shoot was dynamite, and needless to say, we wrapped the night with a few cocktails at 111 Minna.

this is one of jeffrey getting ready.
we have extra special mad thank yous for al’s attire for custom-making jeffrey’s powder pink early 80’s YSL inspired suit and to my favorite girls from litter sf who supplied some terrific jewelry- the piece on my right shoulder is made with feathers and chains and is totally fuck-yes. more on them soon here but in the meantime, congratulations on fashion week ladies! if you ever, ever need hair or makeup i highly recommend david johnson (hair) and victor garcia (makeup). everyone that was a part of it is a friend and i think that’s what made it all so much fun.

this is another photo they didn’t use.
the interview is below and a link to the feature here

The Party People: Photographer Ava Berlin and DJ Jeffery Paradise
by: Leilani Labong
Your biggest influence?
JP: My grandma wore the craziest outfits, including, but not limited to, bedazzled holiday sweaters, iridescent stretch pants and tons of gaudy jewelry. Her style really spoke to me. I now have a ’70s-inspired powder-pink suit custom-made for me by Al’s Attire in North Beach. I wear it with tons of trashy fake-gold jewelry. When in comes to accessories, quantity means quality.
Quantity equals quality? That’s a new one.
AB: My mother taught me that it’s impossible to be overdressed. She says, “It’s not that you’re overdressed—it’s simply that everyone else is underdressed.” She used to go to Studio 54 and had the most amazing wardrobe: Diane von Furstenberg, Dior, Helmut Lang and Halston. As a kid, I’d play dress-up and pretend I was a “dancing queen.” I learned from her that it doesn’t matter what you wear, as long as you carry it with confidence.
As husband and wife, is your fashion sense similar?
JP: I have a best and worst fashion moment every night of my life. That’s how I like it. I spontaneously put outfits together that are full of personality, but don’t look like Halloween costumes.
AB: In our line of work, the only thing that is discouraged is moderation. We have the platform to be as outrageous as we want to be. We love to dress inappropriately, no matter what the occasion.
What are your dirty little fashion secrets?
JP: I don’t keep secrets.
AB: Very easy. La Perla. Black. Lacy. Low-cut. Even if no one sees it, I still feel like a million dollars. —Leilani Labong
On Ava: Custom dress by Alisha Trimble, jewelry by Litter SF, vintage Charles Jourdan heels from Torso Vintages. On Jeffrey: Custom suit by Al’s Attire, vintage top from The Good Shop, Salvatore Ferragamo belt, Tony Lama boots. Additional hair styling by David Johnson; additional makeup by Victor Garcia. Shot on location at 111 Minna Gallery in SoMa.
